On August 13th, 2024, Google held their annual tech event called Made By Google, at Google’s HQ in California. It was the 9th Made With Google Event, similar to Apple's WWDC and Samsung Unpacked where Google unveiled their latest products and software. There was plenty announced this year, so we are here to take a look at what was mentioned and see if the new tech is worth spending your cash on.

This year, the event was more anticipated than expected. It was originally set for October 2024 because it is usually held in the autumn. But this year it was brought forward to August ahead of the iPhone 16 launch because many products and secret projects were being leaked to social media. The Pixel 9 and especially the 9 Fold were leaked by individuals, plus the colours of the new phones were revealed to the public early.
At the end of the event, there were no new announcements or unexpected reveals, we assumed the folding phone was supposed to be a big one considering it was a Pro folding model. But unfortunately, this got ruined.
Is the Pixel 9 out?
The main part of the event was the new Pixel 9 models, which fans were expecting. Fans have been awaiting the new AI features being added to the device and haven’t been disappointed. For photo editing, the ‘magic editor’ extends an image using AI giving photos more details. ‘Made You Look’ is available on the folding phone, where a video or image plays on the exterior side of the screen to get children’s attention, ideal for getting that picture-perfect shot. And ‘Add Me’ was announced which adds the photographer to the photo, so the cameraman is never left out.
4 phones were released, the Google Pixel 9, Pro, Pro XL and Pro Fold which are all available for pre-order now.
- The original 9 model will cost $799 and offers a new, sleek design with a silky matte glass back and polished metal sides. It is twice as durable as its previous model whilst also offering a screen 35% brighter than the Pixel 8.
- The slightly upgraded Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL will be priced at $999. It offers a powerful G4 sensor, and build in AI assistant and is available in porcelain, rose quartz, hazel, and obsidian.
- And finally, we heard about the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This device was announced 1 month before the event due to multiple leaks. We assume this Fold was supposed to be a big surprise release for fans but that was ruined unfortunately by circumstances outside of Google's control. We know quite a bit about this device online, but it has been praised as the thinnest foldable yet.
Is there going to be a Pixel Watch 3?
2 new Pixel Watches were released at the event also. Both the Pixel Watch 3 are different sizes, 41mm and 45mm. The 41mm watch will be priced at $349 and the bigger device will be $399. The watches have improved Actua display, 24-hour battery, Always-On display, detect pulse decreases and speed charging. It also has some added features which include streaming security camera feed live onto the watch.
Are new Pixel Buds coming out?
And finally, we heard about the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2. Priced at $229, these headsets have a new, compact design with Google Gemini integration. They have been redesigned to be even more secure and are wireless to make them lock easily into your ear with a twist feature. The earbuds have a Google Tensor A1 chip, 30 hours of use with active noise cancellation and are perfect for hands-free listening.
