Schools Out - Best Laptops for 2022

School is now out in the UK, and though many people are now sitting back and enjoying the holidays, it is also worth getting ready for the next step. Many people may be moving up to college or university, and no one wants the last-minute stress of having to get all your new tech together. It’s better to get all the prep out of the way first and enjoy the time off without any distractions.

Today, we are going to be looking at the best laptops for this year, laptops that offer great performance for the best price.

Dell Inspiron

If you want a laptop that is super reliable, a Dell Inspiron model certainly does the job. There are a lot of Dell Inspiron models out there, and a massive range of specs on them too. But when it comes to price, a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 model is an excellent choice. Featuring an AMD Ryzen 5 processor along with 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD, you will have all the power you need at a nice cost of around £350.

The Dell Inspiron has enough power not only for lots of documentation but also for entertainment in your spare time. And with up to 8.5 hours of battery life, you will be sorted for long days of work. What’s also great about the Dell Inspiron, is its Dell Mobile Connect feature. Which shares phone calls, notifications, and messages to the laptop, meaning that you can easily focus on one screen.

HP Envy x360

For those who are creative and need a laptop to accommodate that, then an HP Envy x360 is a strong option. Of course, an Apple Mac is the number one option when it comes to graphical design, but the price may be a bit off-putting for a student. But the HP Envy x360 is a great and cheaper alternative, that allows for a more hands-on and artistic experience. You could also opt for the HP Spectre x360 models, as these are typically more powerful, but they do tend to be more expensive.

The number one reason why these models are a strong option is their portability and touchscreen compatibilities. With the HP Envy x360, you can have the screen at any angle you choose. You could have it at a laptop angle, tent angle, or even as more of a tablet. And the touchscreen allows you to easily control the device through your hands rather than a mouse or trackpad. When it comes to specs, you can expect a minimum of 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSDs in the ENVY models (there are models with higher specs). Which is a strong enough performance for getting creative. HP Envy x360 models are available at just under £600, and when you compare this price and the specs to say an Apple MacBook, you will see that it is a top option.

Higher specs will be needed if you are keen on using software like Photoshop and are planning on rendering a lot. These specs can be found in some HP Envy models, but the HP Spectre models are well suited to these demands. And like the HP Envy, the Spectre model provides a well-priced alternative compared to popular brands and devices. Or if you are simply looking for a convertible laptop for general use, an HP Pavilion x360 model will do the trick at a lower price.

Huawei Matebook

The Huawei Matebook is a device that many people may not first think of when it comes to laptops. Brands like HP, Dell and Lenovo often being a front-runner with a lot of different models to choose from. But the Huawei Matebook is certainly a top option, with some very high specs at a matching or lower price to some of these top brands. The Huawei Matebook 13 WRTB-WFE9L is a good example of this. Featuring an Intel Core i7, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and a FullView Display at just under £660. In comparison, you can get an HP x360 with 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and an AMD Ryzen 7 processor for £720.

The specs on the Huawei Matebook 13, and other models, are certainly impressive. Even when running multiple complex tasks or programs at once, you will not notice any obvious issues like lag or slowdown. And of course, the FullView display is a nice added touch. Adding a high resolution and level of immersion that is great for entertainment after a long day of work.

Apple MacBooks

Everyone knows that Apple MacBooks are the number one, most popular option when it comes to computing. The only concern a lot of people may have is the price range. It is important to know exactly what you need when it comes to a MacBook. But if you want a device for documentation, research, some entertainment, and simple tasks, then there are some well-priced models that you can get your hands on.

Many of the older MacBook models, including MacBook Air and Pros, have some very good specifications at quite a low price. For example, you can get an Apple MacBook Pro 2012 model with an Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM and 128GB for under £300. And even less if you consider a refurbished model.

Though if you are looking for the best of the best, a model that will deliver consistently top performance even when running high-demanding programs and tasks, then a recent Apple MacBook Pro model will certainly do that. Apple MacBook Pro models from 2019 and onwards tend to have very high specs and are the best laptop models that you can get. This is thanks to the presence of Apple’s pro chips and other strong features. The only stumbling block for some will be the price.

Microsoft Surfaces

To finish off our list is the Microsoft Surface. There’s a lot to be had with a Microsoft Surface, not only because of the typically strong specifications but also because of the seamless compatibility. With a lot of the Microsoft Surface models you find, if not all of them, you get a ton of compatibility options when it comes to connectable devices. Not only can you connect your phone, tablets, or computers through the dedicated app, but you can also connect them to your console (if you love gaming). Allowing you to switch instantly between devices and track all your notifications through one device, helping boost your focus.

Not only that, but a lot of Microsoft Surfaces are convertible. Meaning you can easily and instantly switch between laptop and tablet modes. Making carrying the device around super easy. And as mentioned, the specs tend to be quite good. For example, you can get a Microsoft Surface Go 2 with 8GB RAM and a 128GB SSD for under £350. And of course, there are other models that feature a lot more. So, keep your eyes out.
